Graduate School, Division and Academic Degrees

As a post-graduate education provider, we share a common view that health sciences are still a “work in progress” academic discipline. With that being said, there is promising potential in education to help facilitate the teaching structure of health sciences and its development by integrating various academic theories and clinical practices. Amongst those we have set out to advance EBH (Evidence-based Healthcare) oriented research.

HU has established the Graduate School of Health Sciences for students’ tertiary education and the Faculty of Health Sciences for research purposes. They together form a basic education and research institute not classified as a “kenkyu-ka (graduate school)” under the School Education Act. It is considered best to opt for an independent organizational form to sidestep the restrictions usually imposed on conventional graduate schools. This reorganization matches the graduate school and faculty initiative of HU’s vision aiming for further flexibility and evolution of future education and research systems.

Our graduate school and faculty have been officially branded with the name of the academic discipline “Health Sciences” as mentioned earlier. The term best explains HU’s philosophy of the graduate school foundation, given the fact that the discipline has much to grow. The evolving health sciences have not only introduced EBH to the conventional health sciences which mainly focus on healthcare provision, but also incorporated associated fields including kinesiology for maintaining and enhancing health helping reduce the risks of lifestyle diseases, and dietary education promotion.
