The Latest Updates Regarding Proof of Japanese Language Proficiency for Overseas Students

(As of January 4, 2023)

From the AY2024 master’s admissions and onwards, the Graduate School of Health Sciences will adopt a relaxed document requirement for Japanese language proficiency.
We have now added credible language proficiency test services to accept scores/certificates from more than one assessment body.

Effective AY2024 admissions onwards, we will accept applications with proof of Japanese language proficiency* as listed below.
Alternatively, current research students of Hokkaido University can turn in a certificate of program completion of the Japanese language program provided by the International Student Center of Hokkaido University.

*Must be from one (or more) of the following ten government-recognized language assessment tests.

  1. JAPANESE-LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY TEST (JLPT)
  2. Business Japanese Proficiency Test (BJT)
  3. J.TEST
  4. Japanese Language NAT-TEST
  5. Standard Test for Business Japanese (STBJ)
  6. TOP JAPANESE (TOPJ)
  7. Certificate of Japanese as a Foreign Language (J-cert)
  8. Japanese Language Capability Test (JLCT)
  9. Practical Japanese Communication Exam (PJC Bridge)
  10. Japanese Proficiency Test (JPT)
